Problems for capturing video with a Macbook and SPOT camera

rgarciasandoval
Hi there

I have a powerbook 2.3 Ghz with Corei5 and 8GB on RAM with 10.6.8 OS hooked with a SPOT FLEX 15.2 camera with firewire output.

I connected the camera to the laptop with a firewire adapter (from 400MB to 800MB) but every time I try to capture video with  ImageJ I just get the image from build in camera....just my face with angry-frustrated expression

I ran the SpotCameraDriverMac4.7.5.13 and even the isightdisabler3.5 script but I can get video from the SPOT camera.

I will like to avoid to buy the spot software as long as I borrow the camera for 2 months and I don't want to pay 150dlls for 2 months use.

If any one can point me in the right way I will be very grateful

Thank you very much in advance for any help

Hi there

Just an update

I think the camera is not quicktime compatible in any way. Even when I tried with specific plugs from the company and the camera is just not working.

Model is

SPOT Flex Mosaic 15.2

Is a very fancy camera but is very hard to use without the proprietary SPOT software

If any of you have an idea about how to plug this camera on a macintosh computer I will be very grateful

Thanks a lot to the people who kindly suggest  me some good ideas.

I will post a solution if I find it

Cheers!

Ricardo

While specialty cameras are not my typical, if the camera manufacturer does not provide a 'standard camera USB or FIREWIRE' device type, one is forced to use their custom driver, probably included in the SPOT software package.

This doesn't have too much to do with Quicktime per se, but on the hardware and operating system driver level, and how Mac OS determines what sort of entity has just been plugged into the Firewire (or USB).

I don't know if the company that manufactures the camera has a 'basic driver' package to allow it to be integrated into the Mac OS list of 'video input devices', so you could use it for simple capture. But emailing them would be the best to determine this.
