Dear All,
We have a Windows XP-64 machine with quad Xeons and 24Gb of ram. This machine has ImageJ 1.43r (but the error occurs even with previous versions), and has 22GB of RAM assigned to it. I have tried to reduce the allocated memory to less than 1GB but the error stills occurs. On this machine alone, when using 32 or 16 bit tiffs, they are rendered in a fragmented way. If one double clicks in the window or resizes it, this can sometimes cause the image to be drawn properly. I attach an image where there should be a circle of grains in the middle. Any ideas? Thanks, Edward rendering_problem.jpg (236K) Download Attachment |
Edward,
I am pretty new to ImageJ so I may not be correct here. But I have seen this behavior when trying to display tiled tiffs (as opposed to stripped tiffs). However if this is the case I do not think a window resize would fix it. Again I'm not sure. Can you find a program to determine if the data is stored as tiles? I have a problem that looks like this on my computer except that
images are broken up and displayed in vertical strips. Each strip is 256 pixels wide. If I shrink the view so that the entire image fits into a box less than 256 X 256, then the whole image as a thumbnail looks ok. Also, A screen snap of the image looks wrong but saving the image directly within ImageJ saves the correct data. Here are some of the computer specs. Thanks for your replies,
The tiff are saved line by line (we are also seeing this behaviour with raw files). I also get the same "rendering only" problem whereby if one saves the images, they are fine, it is just their display that doesn't work. Any further ideas about what I could do? Hi Edward,
just a few fairly trivial ideas, maybe you have tried all this already: - are there any updates to the graphics card drivers? - any updates to the Java version you are using? - I don't know for Windows 64, but on XP many graphics cards have advanced settings where one can reduce the graphics acceleration settings and disable 'write combining' in case of problems with the display.
