A few weeks ago I posted asking for help with a problem setting the scale prior to an image measurement. When I clicked on the line tool to set the initial measurement to a known length the set scale window came up with the "Distance in pixels" box blank. It didn't display the number of pixels per my unit and the "Scale:" box simply said "<no scale>". I received a few responses from readers but they didn't help. Ultimately, I discovered the solution and I thought I would share it, though I'm embarrassed that I didn't catch my error earlier.
When setting a line of known distance so the program can determine the number of pixels for that line you must use the STRAIGHT line tool, not the segmented line tool or the freehand tool. I just didn't didn't read the instruction carefully enough.
Thanks to those who tried to help.
