Skeletonizations, with loops, of Volumetric Data or 3D objects in ImageJ?

Shawn Mikula-2
Dear ImageJ Community,
does anyone know whether it's possible to do automated (or semi-automated)
skeletonizations, with loops, of either binary volumetric data (as an image
stack) or of 3D objects (as VRML or other 3D format).  I know there are
neuron tracing ImageJ plugins but these do not do what I want. What I have
is a complicated 3D (non-tree) structure, both as a binary image stack, and
as a VRML 3D mesh, that I want to simplify by generating its skeleton, in
order to show just its topology.  Does anyone have any ideas for how to do
this in ImageJ?
thanks in advance,
Shawn
