Splitting object

Dear All,

I would like to separet elliptic/circular object from a binary image. I tried to use the watershed method but it failed on elliptic objects beyond a certain shape.
I found the following paper http://www.ias-iss.org/ojs/IAS/article/viewFile/862/765 that look to answer to this question but the author couln't release the source code (due to some licensing).

Does anybody would have an idea on how to separate them?
