Tiff image rotation problems

Guy Godwin
Hi

I am fairly new to using ImageJ and have tried using the Image->rotate->Rotate 90 degrees to left on a tiff image that I have scanned in.  Unfortunately when the image is rotated I get a whole lot of diagonal lines.  The crazy part is when I put a line profile on the rotated (distorted) image I get the profile that looks similar to what I would expect if the image wasn't distorted.  I am running ImageJ 1.40g.

Hope someone can help as I am totally at a loss.

Regards
Guy

This is very uncommon behaviour, and should affect ALL images under Imagej,
as the rotation is done
independent off the input file. Never seen this, looks more like a bug in
the windowing subsystem or graphics
hardware, as you also say that the line profile is OK What happens if you
refresh the window (put it in back/
foreground, hide/unhide)!!??

Hi,

are these artefacts still there when you zoom the image to 100%? If not,
these artefacts are most likely due to the interpolation scheme ImageJ
uses to display images at different magnifications (75%, 50%, ...)

All the best,
Stephan

This is a problem with large composite color images (e.g., 48-bit
TIFFs). I can reproduce it by opening the "M51 Galaxy (116K, RGB)"
sample image, using the Image>Color>Make Composite command, and then
the Image>Rotate>90 Degrees Right command. You can get the rotated
image to display correctly by moving the channel selection slider under
the image. I hope to have a fix for this problem in the next day or
two.

Thanks to all for your help.  Following on from Joachim email I noted I could get the real image by 'duplicating' the rotated image.  I look forward to the fix.
