Trouble opening large tif file from FTP server

Hi,

I am trying to open a large tif file from a FTP server by using File/Import/URL and I basically run into two problems:

- The opening stops after some 2 GB of the file are loaded (out of the total 4 GB).
- The transfer rate is something like 50% slower than when I transfer the file with FileZilla (this later additionally fetch the file to my local disk, not to memory).

Any idea of where this might come from and a possible solution?
