I vote for this too!
The filenames of my µCT data have a standard length of 60 characters, and I use the label field to identify the source file name when the data is opened as a virtual stack. Now this is no longer possible, as the important image number at the end of the filename is lost in the truncation. The number series does not necessarily start on 1, so the slice number will not provide this info.

Subject: Truncated Label in 1.53i24
In nightly build 1.53i24, the slice label text shown above images now only shows up to ~41 characters with an ellipsis appended if more characters are in the underlying label property. Previously, you could show about 61 characters. I have a few plugins that take advantage of the full 61 characters to show some contextual metadata, so I would vote for keeping that many characters available for this if feasible.
Thanks,
Alan
