Using ImageJ for analyzing growth rings

Hello all-
I need to measure the distance between shell growth rings. My images have between 30 and 300 growth rings on them, and I can’t figure out how to get ImageJ to measure multiple points at once.

Ideally I want to be able to click on each growth ring then have ImageJ create a table shows the point number and distance between each point. I will also need to go back and remove and / or add points and still have all points arranged left to right on the image (edge to middle).

Can ImageJ do this?
If not what programs would you recommend?
Thanks

Hi,

can you draw a straight line perpendicular to the rings, scan across the
line, using "Plot Profile", plot the results using "Plot Profile", and
measure the peak to peak distances on the graph?

Are your tree rings anything like the "Open Samples/Tree Rings" example? Are
you looking for an automated process or a manual one? How do you define the
measurement points?

you might try my clonal analysis tools for this - basically an automated
way to measure between the peaks on the graph:

please contact me if you need help making them work

ImageJ can do some of what yo8u want as is and I think everything with a
little tailoring. Recall ImageJ's power is that it is open and extensible.

The "Edit/Selection/Add to Manager" menu item will allow you to insert
multiple point locations defined by using the Point Selection tool into
the ROI manager. This will be displayed in an ROI Manager window. The
Manager window gives you options for adding, deleting, ... and measuring
things releated to each selection. This doesn't give the distances, but
I'm sure one could write a  macro could be written to do so.

Are you experienced with ImageJ macros?

Hi David-
I need a manual process, the rings are to fine for a machine eye.
Someone sent this too me so I'll give a try ObjectJ
