Using the life line version with daily builds

Avital Steinberg
Hi,
I have a mac and I'm using the life line version of ImageJ bundled with
Java 6, because Java 8 doesn't work well on my mac. How can I get the daily
build? I used to be able to get the daily build and still use Java 6, but
now if I update ImageJ, it switches ImageJ to work with Java 8 and all my
scripts stop working.

So how can I just get the latest daily build which still using ImageJ and
Java 6?

Thanks,
Avital

Good day Avital,

I fear you are using Fiji.

When using plain ImageJ I encounter no problem with updating.
(No Java 8 installed on my brand new Mac.)

Best

Herbie

Hi Avital

I run FIji on a mac (MacOS 10.12.1 , Sierra), currently using java
1.8.0_92 jdk, and all is well. The only issue is the slowdown problem
associated with refresh of the menu bar, but Wayne's workaround where
the menu bar does not refresh automatically when the delay has built up
makes this manageable.

I had to go to 1.8 because some plugins that I needed would no longer
run on 1.6 .
I would suggest you try 1.8 again. If you have trouble we can compare
configurations and see what differences exist between our computers.

Normally you use the Help>Update ImageJ command and select “daily build” from the drop down menu but the life line version of Fiji comes with ImageJ 1.50e, which generates a “Release Notes are not in the expected format” error when you try to upgrade. You get this error because versions of ImageJ earlier than 1.50i download ij.jar files from https://imagej.nih.gov/ij, which fails because the ImageJ website now uses encryption incompatible with Java. You can work around this problem by downloading the ImageJ Updater plugin from

    https://imagej.nih.gov/ij/plugins/updater/index.html

which downloads ij.jar files from wsr.imageJ.net.
