Ways to obtain uniform contrast among tiff files

Miller, Nathaniel R
Hello,
I'm new to this list and just starting to work with ImageJ for various imagery.  I don't know that this is specifically something that ImageJ can help with, but I'm seeking a way to post-process gray-scale UV fluorescent imagery (tiff files) to enhance brightness and contrast, and obtain processed images have the same overall appearance.  These images (speleothem calcite) show differing fluorescence character of calcite growth bands, and when properly positioned form a continuous mosaic.  These images were obtained by manually moving a thin section, leaving some overlap, so they are not automatically tiled. The challenge is that the lighting across the images varies (brighter in center) so that without adjusting, the final mosaic looks very patchy.  Ideally, I'd like to find a way to obtain a mosaic that looks as uniform as possible, while still showing the essential details of the growth bands from image to image.  I've only found ways to doing this (photoshop, mac preview) for single images, so getting them to look the same as the other images is very difficult. I know there are panorama applications that do something like this, but not sure if this would work.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
