Weird pixel movements at 75% and 150% zoom.

ved sharma
Hello,

I see this weird pixel movements in the my images and I wanted to check if other people also see it? Open the attached 16-bit image, change zoom to either 75% or 150%. Draw an roi somewhere in the image and then click outside the roi. During this last mouse press and release, I see image pixels moving diagonally in the whole image. I don't see this effect at any other zoom setting.

I'm running Imagej 1.45k, on a Windows 7 machine.

I tried it and I don't see the effect you described. Mac OS X 10.6.7, version 1.45l8.

Re: Weird pixel movements at 75% and 150% zoom.

Jacqueline Ross
Hi Ved,

I saw the effect on my computer (Windows XP, IJ 1.45e) although I haven't noticed it before. Maybe I don't normally use these zoom settings. Certainly, I don't usually go above 100% display.

But I would describe it as a "blink" (or flinch), where the pixels shift (about one pixel on my system) and then return to their correct position.

So, I think it's just something to do with refreshing the display after deactivating the ROI.

Kind regards,

Jacqui

Updating to 1.45l does not help.

On another machine, I've Windows XP, IJ 1.45d, and I don't see this pixel movement. Seems to me that it is specific to Windows 7. Any Windows 7 users would like to test and report?

Sorry Ved,

I think I must have forgotten to go back to the same zoom. I still have the issue (Windows XP).

Jacqui

Hi Ved,

I have image j 1.44 p on Windows XP. I have opened your image, I zoomed it at 150 % and I drew a selection. When I clicked outside the selection, I have observed the image moving. As Jacqui told it, I think it is just a "blink" because when I zoom to 2400% in order to see each pixel and when I draw a selection and click outside, the pixels don't move.
Try to the zoom 2400%.

kind regards.

Carole Force.

Yes, it is just a "blink" of pixels across the whole image. You will not see it at 2400% zoom. It's only zoom 150% and 75% which show this effect.

Just found that, if I open the image using Image5D, zoom it to 150% or 75% and click on the image, I see the same effect. No need to even draw the roi.
