Hi,
I am not so happy about the way I installed Eclipse and ImageJ on Linux and Mac. The way I did it before did not allow me to update ImageJ easily. So now I would like to install them all over again. What's the most recommended way to install Eclipse and ImageJ - on each of the following operating systems: Linux (Ubuntu), Mac and Windows. Thanks, Avital -- ImageJ mailing list: http://imagej.nih.gov/ij/list.html |
Hi Avital,

It also links to a number of useful resources. Hope that helps. Hi Mark,
Thanks - the instructions look different from the ones I used, so hopefully - they will work better, Avital On Tue, Dec 2, 2014 at 6:43 PM, Mark Hiner <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hi Avital, > > What's the most recommended way to install Eclipse and ImageJ - on each of > > the following operating systems: > > > > The ImageJ wiki has a page on Eclipse: > http://imagej.net/Developing_ImageJ_in_Eclipse > > It has instructions for installation, per platform, source code checkout, > importing projects, and running ImageJ. When I try to follow these instructions, there is something missing:
In "import the ImageJ source", it says to select existing Maven project. Where can I find a detailed explanation about Maven projects? I understand that I should have exising Maven projects, but assuming that I've just installed Eclipse and ImageJ and I've never heard of Maven, these instructions are not clear to me. Hi Avital,
> Where can I find a detailed explanation about Maven projects? http://imagej.net/Maven > I understand that I should have exising Maven projects Right. It should not be necessary to understand anything about Maven if what you want to do is to import existing project(s) into Eclipse. Just follow the instructions Mark linked. That said, in response to your questions, we are making some edits to the ImageJ Development pages to hopefully make things clearer and easier to understand for newcomers. We will reply back again once those edits are in place. Thank you, Wayne and Curtis for your answers. I am trying to follow the
instructions in the link that Wayne gave me. I followed the instructions up to the point in which I download ImageJ, copy the ij folder into the src folder, copy the plugins folder into the IJ folder, and also copy IJ_props.txt to the IJ folder. (the platform I'm using right now is Windows 7) Now, when I look in Eclipse, I see two red x's - one is next to ij.plugin.quicktime and the other one is next to ij.plugin.twain . Why would this be? How would you recommend fixing this problem? Hi Avital,
>Now, when I look in Eclipse, I see two red x's There is a Problems view <http://help.eclipse.org/juno/index.jsp?topic=%2Forg.eclipse.platform.doc.user%2Freference%2Fref-31a.htm> in Eclipse, which can be used to investigate the causes of issues in this case. Without knowing what error message is being displayed, it's hard to suggest possible fixes. >I understand that I should have exising Maven projects >these instructions are not clear to me. After going back through these documents, I completely agree that there were critical gaps in the instructions. We rewrote the source code <http://imagej.net/Source_code> page, in particular, and updated related sections of the wiki. I hope these changes will clarify for future readers that the Git repositories contain Maven projects which can be easily imported into Eclipse (e.g. that ImageJA <https://github.com/imagej/ImageJA> is the Maven-ized ImageJ source). Thank you for the feedback! Best, Mark On Wed, Dec 3, 2014 at 2:22 PM, Avital Steinberg <[hidden email]> wrote: > Thank you, Wayne and Curtis for your answers.
