convert pdf into image

jay chen
Dear experts:

I have a series of rat brain atlas images.  They are in pdf
format.  I wonder is it possible to convert these pdf format images
into  common image formats, e.g. DICOM, Analyze?  If yes, could you
tell me how to do that?  Your suggestions and comments are
appreciated.

                                        Sincerely
                                        Jay Chen

You can import and extract images from *.pdf files easily with Gimp.
Simply drag the *.pdf file on the Gimp GUI or open it with the standard
dialog.

Jay,

besides using the Gimp you can also extract images from .pdf files
with 'pdfimages'. On your linux system, try 'whereis pdfimages':
on mine it's in /usr/bin/pdfimages. To see how to use it do
'man <pdfimages', as always.

Nino

Just a quick thought: In case your PDFs were originally created with Adobe Photoshop (as "Photoshop PDF"), then Photoshop may be able to open them without rasterizing the images again - which would certainly be an advantage. To find out I would check the document properties with Acrobat.

The pdf to image converting tool I am using now is desinged with an intermediay operation for pdf to image conversion, that is rendering pdf document pages into a certian system compatible image format first, then converting the image to a certian image form, such as jpeg, bmp, png or gif.
