embedded thumbnails

Hi all.  Here's the problem.

I have a directory of tif files to process.  Each has an imbedded thumbnail
that file browsers can display.  I was going to use the "Multiple Image
Processor" plugin to open them, run a macro, then save as another tif file.
HOWEVER, when it gets saved, there is no thumbnail embedded, which I find
useful.  The only routine I can find that embeds the thumbnail is the
"Image IO" plugin from http://ij-plugins.sourceforge.net/ .

Anyone know of a simple way to embed thumbnails by default, or will I have
to dive into the code (non-trivial for this Java newbie!)?
