Semester/Bachelor/Masters Project
Development of Microscopy Software

Job Description

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest
ranked
scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory
is
located in Heidelberg (Germany) and the outstations are in Grenoble
(France),
Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).

The Ries group at the Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit in Heidelberg is
looking for
a student to participate in the development of a powerful software package
for
superresolution microscopy.

Several superresolution techniques have emerged during the last years that
can
overcome the resolution limit of optical microscopes by more than one order
of magnitude. They combine molecular specificity with nanometer resolution
in
biological systems and will be a key technology of the future. We are
developing
powerful open source software for superresolution microscopy based on the
scientific image analysis platform ImageJ/Fiji to make these techniques
available to
the life-science community.

Qualifications and Experience

The applicant should have a background in programming / software development
and should be proficient in Java. Experience in OpenCL or CUDA would be
advantageous.

Application Instructions

Please contact directly Jonas Ries ([hidden email]).
