merging chanels?

Cammer, Michael
Has there been a change in merging channels?

We used to adjust the contrast of 16 bit images to look the way we wanted them onthe screen and then merge them with Image > Color > Merge Channels... with composite off and Keep Source Images on.  If we split the resultant image later, we got 8 bit versions of the grayscale images we saw onthe monitor.

Today, using 1.45 with 32 bit Vista, the merged images are being contrast adjusted to look brighter, including features saturated, and splitting the channels shows that this was applied to the grayscale during the merge process.

For now we're converting to 8 bit before to get around this.

Thanks,

Michael

Re: merging chanels?

Hi Michael,

maybe you have changed the Edit>Options>Conversions 'Scale when
converting' settings?
