nanofibers with sample image

Erkan Biber
Dear all,

I posted a message which is about measuring the diameters and
histogram of polimeric nanofibers which are obtained from
electrospinning. Here is the sampe image:

If there is someone who can help me how to use ImageJ for this
purpose, I would be very appreciated.

thank you for your interest,

Re: nanofibers with sample image

Erkan --

Just a thought:
you can try to extract a directional information from the image with structure
tensor (FeatureJ, e.g.). Then, pick up points from the image where the
magnitude is high -- those would be (hopefully) points along the center lines
of fibers. Then you can extract an intensity profile perpendicular to the
direction of a fiber. Then you can use either threshold or derivative (1st or
even 2nd) to get the width of a fiber. You also would have to make sure that
you measure the same fiber only once or that you measure them equal number of
times (you may want to trace the fibers with other plugins -- I don't
remember which ones exactly).

Hope this helps,

Mikhail.
