partial multi-frame .tif stack

Tony Lien
Hello ImageJ fans,

I'm working on large calcium imaging movies in multi-frame .tif format. The
files are pushing my memory limit and I was wondering if there was a
convenient way to open only part of the file (ie frames 100-500) as an image
stack in ImageJ. It seems like that when you open a multi-frame .tif, you
can only load the entire thing, which is problematic when the file is larger
than memory. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Tony,

You can use the Bio-Formats plugin and check the "Specify range for
each series" option, then narrow the range of planes. Or you can use
the LOCI 4D Data Browser plugin to read image planes from disk on
demand (as you move the z-depth and time sliders). There are currently
limitations to the types of analysis you can perform on a 4D Data
Browser window, though.
