problems with opening images using drag and drop

Leoncio Vergara
Hi, maybe this is a very basic issue, but suddenly I realized that I can no longer open images by simply dragging and dropping into the imageJ window. I am running FIJI. Image J 1.52r in a windows 10 PC. I just noticed this issue today. I would appreciate tips on how to solve this problem.

Thank you.

Hi Leoncio,

I am unable to reproduce this problem in my Windows 10 VM with up-to-date
Fiji (ImageJ 2.0.0-rc-69/1.52p). Dragging the icon.png file in the
Fiji.app\images folder onto the ImageJ status bar shows the message "<<Drag
and Drop>>" while dragging, and opens the file when the mouse button is
released.

One way to troubleshoot the issue is to turn on the Debug mode in Edit >
Options > Misc... You should then start seeing lots of messages in the
ImageJ Log window while drag-and-dropping.

Regards,
Curtis

I have the opposite problem.  On a Mac laptop, (now running Catalina, but the problem goes back several releases), double clicking on an image file (which has FIJI/ImageJ properly set as the proper application to open the file) causes FIJI to start, but NOT open the image.  I have to separately:
   a) open FIJI
   b) drag&drop the image file onto the ImageJ window (or double-click on the image file again - either way works)

Maybe these threads offer some insight:

https://forum.image.sc/t/double-click-on-image-doesnt-open-file-in-fiji/409
  https://forum.image.sc/t/cant-drag-drop-files-to-fiji/5537

You could try a fresh install of Fiji. Some people on those threads say it
fixed their drag-and-drop issues.

Dear all,

I just tested on ImageJ1 1.52r on Win 10,
java.version: 1.8.0_112,  java.vendor: Oracle Corporation

Images open by drag and drop as expected.

Best regards,

Dimiter Prodanov
