Hello,
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to place a rectangular ROI on an image at an arbitrary rotation? Thought that I'd ask before writing a macro to generate one from a line. Thanks, glen Glen MacDonald Core for Communication Research Virginia Merrill Bloedel Hearing Research Center Box 357923 University of Washington Seattle, WA 98195-7923 USA (206) 616-4156 [hidden email] |

Thanks, I looked at the Tools part of the docs, but forgot about the Selection options.

Close, but doesn't work. Once a rectangular ROI has been rotated Plot Profile no longer recognizes it as a rectangle.

Why a rectangle and not a line, a very thick line.

Because I'm getting aged and forgetful, as you keep reminding me.
Coulda sworn I tried that awhile back and it didn't work. Oh well, problem solved, thanks. Hello,
I want to compare the same sized rectangular ROI between different images, but some ROI's are rotated and some are not. When I rotate a rectangular ROI the area of it changes. Is there any way to rotate a ROI, but keep the area the same? Thanks, Judith |

Hello All,
I have a similar problem as Judith Mars'. I have an irregular shape ROI that has to be superimposed on some few thousand photos. The shape needs to be a mask that I can re-size and move to line it up with each photo. I'm not sure how to make the mask portable from photo to photo and then, same as Judith, manage to rotate and/or size it. Thanks much! Hi Judith,
when rotating a ROI, there is always a small error due to the finite size of the pixels. ImageJ uses sub-pixel accuracy for the corners of the rotated rectangle, but the image pixels have integer coordinates, so they are considered either inside or outside the rectangle, even if the border would actually cut a pixel into one portion inside and the rest outside. Anyhow, this error is much smaller (usually below 1% unless you have very small rectangles) than all the other errors typically involved in image processing. If you want to reduce it, enlarge the image; then the area will be more accurate. Perhaps you should reverse the thinking a bit, and align the images
first, using the plugin "image stabilizer?" Then you would not need to do any ROI adjustment...
