servlet example

Hello list,

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good servlet example?
Are there any servlet-embedding specific api docs, etc...?

I mainly want to generate images containing text / other images (kind of like captcha only no distortion).
Does anyone know if this is possible?

Sorry for the newbie questions, but i can't seem to find this info anywhere on the website.

I actually tried that link and for some reason the page is constantly timing out ... also I wasn't sure if there was any sample code there.
