Ryzen vs I7 performance

Hi all,

I´m using a macro to perform these operations:

1) load 720 images into a stack
2) for each slice preprocessing (filter, background substraction, thersholding) and segmentation (make binary and watershed)
3) for each slice counting particles , measuring several parameters of each particle and saving ROis and results in files

My question is about performance.
Using a Laptop  i7-4710HQ 2.5 GHz step 1 takes more than 300 seconds, and steps 2+3 around 600 seconds.
A Ryzen 5 1600 3.2/3.6 GHz times are about three times shorter.
Both computers run W10 with 16Gb.

Does this mean that Ryzen  CPU are faster working with ImageJ?

Unlikely. You are reporting a difference between two specific *machines*, but
assume that the difference is solely due to the *CPU family* while the rest is
the same. I do not think that the comparison is fair.

Other things matter a lot: motherboard design, clock speed (there is ~ 1GHz
difference!), number of cores, drive (rpm? SSD? ) that you are loading the
data from, RAM speed, CPU configuration, IJ version, Java version, video
drivers and probably many others all might be contributing to the performance
too.
