dendritic spine quantification

Darren Scully
Hello,

I am an extremely new user of ImageJ.  I have only downloaded it last week. So I was wondering if there is any mechanism whereby one can quantify spines protruding from a dendrite.  I will be using two mechanisms to image the dendrites and spines. Flourescent micrsoscopy to give me 2D views and also confocal microscopy.

I was wondering if I can quantify the spines using either or both techniques?  Preferably using confocal so I can obtain the real spine number and preclude double-counting of the same spine.

Many thanks in advance.

Darren,

Look into NeuronJ, a plugin that works as a stand alone program
that's perfectly fit for quantifying dendritic morphology.

>Hi Darren,

I published an article recently on synaptic bouton counting
using ImageJ. May be it could help?
Check in PubMed for Prodanov et al. in Journal of Neuroscience Methods.

best regards
Dimiter
