Re: error dicom

Try opening the image after turning on ImageJ's debug mode, by clicking Edit->Options->Misc... and pressing Debug mode.  As the dicom tags are processed, they will be printed out to the log.  If the output only gets to the 0002,0010 tag, it's probably a DICOM file that ImageJ is not equipped to read.  In that case, try opening it with Fiji (http://fiji.sc/Fiji which is ImageJ with extra libraries).   If Fiji does not open the image, let us know what kind of output the debug mode gives.

Thanks,
Justin Senseney

Re: error dicom

You should also manually adding a .dcm extension to your files, since ImageJ/Fiji is having trouble recognizing the format.

Re: error dicom

marco jimenez
thank you very much to all for the answers I will try with all the
alternatives they give me, but OsiriX decompressed files and then I could
open them in ImageJ, I would like to open them directly in ImageJ because
the images may lose information in the process I'm doing.
greetings and thank you very much

Hi Marco,

This error is being displayed because the image data in the DICOM file is compressed. You can use one of the utilities in the Offis DICOM tool kit to create copies of your files with uncompressed image data, and then work with these. I have written a small batch file that will decompress a whole directory of images for you. See http://medphysfiles.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=93

Regards,

David

ImageJ has built-in support for opening DICOM files, but sometimes certain types of DICOM files can be difficult to open due to the way they are stored or the encoding of the data. Here are a few things you can try to open your mammograms in ImageJ:

Make sure you have the latest version of ImageJ installed. Newer versions of ImageJ may have improved support for certain types of DICOM files.

Try using the "Import" function in ImageJ to open the DICOM files. To do this, go to "File" > "Import" > "Image Sequence" and then navigate to the folder containing your DICOM files. ImageJ should recognize the files as DICOM and open them as an image sequence.

If the DICOM files still won't open, try using a third-party DICOM viewer or converter to convert the files to a different format, such as TIFF or JPEG, which can be opened in ImageJ. There are many free DICOM viewers and converters available online.

If none of the above solutions work, it's possible that the DICOM files are corrupted or encoded in a way that is incompatible with ImageJ. In this case, you may need to consult with a medical imaging expert or contact the manufacturer of the mammography system that was used to generate the images for further assistance.

Rachel Gomez
